Olive's Best #7

We can't believe it's already the end of the year! We want to celebrate each of you for being our client! Thank you for all of the great memories in the past year & enjoying all the beautiful hair we were able to get our hands on! 2019 was great & we hope all of you beauties feel the same!

Naturally, we think we should all have a little delicious treat here and there around the holiday season. Here's a cookie recipe that's been around for Rae's entire life:

Eggnog Cookies

4 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon cream of tartar 1 teaspoon nutmeg 1 cup butter 3/4 cups granulated sugar 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar 2 eggs 1/2 cup eggnog 1 teaspoon rum extract

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream butter & sugars until fluffy. Add eggs, eggnog and rum extract. Mix well.

In separate bowl; mix dry ingredients - only until they are combined. Once together, slowly incorporate into wet ingredients, mixing until everything is together.

Chill in fridge wrapped in plastic wrap for 1 hour. When ready to bake, form dough into 1' balls, rolling in (6 tablespoons sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon & 1 teaspoon nutmeg) then place on greased baking sheet.

Bake 8-9 minutes, just until the cookies start to crack.

Let cool on a wire rack & enjoy!

Bringing wellness into Olive; the dream had never been to simply open a mobile hair salon, but to add wellness into the picture. If you've spoken to Rae about this; you'll know she loves wellness & health just as much as she loves highlighting your hair. Since graduating yoga teacher training, that opportunity has come to fruition. Book her for a private class for a 1:1 lesson or to get you and whatever crowd you'd like flowing in the breath. DM, message or call for details, or simply go online to book through the STX system!

Need an easy holiday look that can get you through 5 different parties in one week? Here's the simplest way of 'curling' your hair to get you looking glam.

When you've got a little Christmas dinner party to look pretty a-okay for. Try out this 50's inspired curl!

Step 1: Dry your hair with some seriously good styling products that can support this style. I used Happy Campers as a leave-in by Evo, then added B&B's Full Form Mousse. (I round-brushed to get the 'full effect' - already directing the hair in the way I would like it to go.)

Step 2: Section out about 1" close to your nape, spray with (I used) Living Proof Flex shaping (It has heat protectant!) Curl in the ONE direction you'd like your hair to sit - AKA - if you want the curls to show up on the right side, curl all hair towards the right. **EVERY CURL! As you curl a section, clip or bind it with an elastic.

Step 3: Work your way up your head, curling in ONE single direction, adding the curls (with spray) into your elastic or clip.

Step 4: Once everything has been curled, spray once more & allow to cool down before brushing out.

Step 5: Brush out your curls, encouraging the 50's pin-curl wave to take shape.

Step 6: Add any little pins or clips you'd like, spray & enjoy eating and drinking all night!

PS. Always do this while singing & possibly dancing to Christmas tunes.. We love Taylor Swift's "Christmas Tree Farm" - highly recommend! MERRY CHRISTMAS!

This holiday season, we should all be reading a thrilling book that we can't put down. Our recommendation is called "Angela's Ashes" by Frank McCourt. This has been published for since 1996, but it's incredible. (A ton of emotions with this one, but we enjoyed every word!!) Happy reading!

One more thing to check out over the holidays; Cyd Hall's new single. It was released on Apple Music, iTunes, wherever you want to buy music! She has the voice of an angel and is a growing Calgary sensation. Support her by clicking her link! We were commissioned to do the artwork & love Cyd to the core. (& her music!)

We hope all of your holidays are filled with great memories and tons of laughter! See you next year, beauties!

xo,

Olive.
